Which system should I choose for chemicals and chlorine?
BASELINE ZERO is our first recommendation for chlorine, taste and odour, and man-made industrial compounds such as pesticides. Because it holds significantly more filtration media, it gives your water much more time filtering through the carbon than with a standard cartridge.
What about hard water and limescale?
A water softener is the only true long-term solution to remove calcium and magnesium. It works on the same principals as BASELINE ZERO, larger amount of media and backwashing to prolong the lifespan of the system.
Do I need a water softener?
Most homes in Perth don’t need a water softener. As a general rule we recommend a water softener when the hardness (made up of calcium and magnesium) in your water exceeds a reading of 100ppm. This is typical of suburbs from Joondalup onward, most homes south of Joondalup do not. Unnecessarily removing calcium and magnesium can negatively affect your drinking water. This is another reason why we don’t suggest water conditioners as they cannot regulate how much hardness they’re removing.
How much does BASELINE ZERO cost installed?
BASELINE ZERO is installed from $3,899, including licensed plumbing, electrical and drain connection. We confirm your final price after a water test and site check, because it depends on where the system goes and how your water main is run. A water softener or pre-filter is quoted as an add-on.
How often does the media need replacing?
Media typically lasts 3 to 5 years. It varies, as every home has different water quality, usage habits and other variables. Higher usage or heavier chlorine levels mean the media works harder, while lighter use extends it. When it is due, a genuine BASELINE ZERO Recharge is $849.
Do you replace the media for me?
Yes. We offer media replacement as a premium service for customers who want complete peace of mind. Rather than leaving you to track timelines yourself, we monitor replacement intervals and service your system at the right time so it keeps performing as intended.
Can BASELINE ZERO be installed outside?
Yes. It comes with insulated weatherproof covers, which are fitted on every outdoor install.
Will I lose water pressure?
Expect about 100 kPa of pressure drop at installation. The weekly backwash stops the gradual pressure loss you get as cartridges clog.
Is BASELINE ZERO WaterMark certified?
Yes. It is certified to AS 3497:2021, licence WM-032536, issued by IAPMO Oceania.
What if I am on bore or tank water?
BASELINE ZERO is designed mainly for mains water. Bore, tank and other sources need a water test first, as high iron can affect performance and the warranty, and extra pre-filtration may be needed.
Do you service my area?
We cover up to 35 km from the Perth CBD. Outside that, an in-home consultation is $99 including a water test, refunded off your install if you go ahead.
Why don't you sell 1 micron systems?
It isn’t a factor of cutting costs, 1 micron filters cost the same as others. We don’t install ultra-fine whole-home filters because they create more problems than benefits. When filtration is too tight, water pressure drops, filters clog quickly, and systems need constant replacements, which drives up cost and maintenance. Good water filtration is about balance, improving water quality while keeping strong flow and reliable performance throughout the home. Ultra-fine filtration is best used at a point of use, like a drinking tap, where water has already been filtered and only a small amount needs extra polishing.
What do you test for?
Our test kits are designed to test beyond ‘TDS’. TDS stands for total dissolved solids, this doesn’t tell the full story of what needs treating with your water. TDS can include things like good minerals and doesn’t give an indication on what needs treating. Our equipment will determine chlorine levels and how much of the total is contributed to by things like hardness that cause scale.
